PHILADELPHIA, PA — Governor Josh Shapiro signed an executive order Wednesday at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia to safeguard Pennsylvanians’ access to vaccines and reinforce the right to make personal health care decisions in consultation with medical professionals.
The order comes as federal debates and conflicting guidance have raised concerns about public confidence in longstanding vaccine protocols. Shapiro emphasized that his administration is committed to ensuring children and adults across the Commonwealth continue to have access to immunizations that protect against preventable diseases.
Standing alongside Pennsylvania Department of Health Secretary Dr. Debra Bogen, hospital leaders, and medical experts, Shapiro underscored the importance of vaccine access in promoting public health and maintaining trust between patients and physicians.
“Pennsylvanians should be able to make their own health care choices guided by science and their doctors — not politics,” Shapiro said at the event.
The executive order directs state agencies to protect vaccine distribution channels, reinforce educational outreach, and counteract misinformation. It also seeks to reassure families that Pennsylvania will continue to uphold access to immunizations even as national discourse grows increasingly divided.
Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia CEO Madeline Bell and vaccine researchers, including Dr. Charlotte Moser and Dr. Diana Montoya-Williams, joined the governor to highlight how vaccines remain a cornerstone of pediatric and adult health care.
Shapiro’s order adds another layer of state-level protection, signaling that Pennsylvania intends to hold firm on preserving access to vaccines amid political challenges.
