WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Senate Finance Committee has taken a significant step to support American families and businesses, approving language that extends the IRS Section 45S Employer Credit for Paid Family and Medical Leave through December 31, 2025. The approval marks a key victory for the Christian Employers Alliance (CEA) and its coalition of faith-driven business leaders, who have been vocal advocates for preserving the tax credit.
The 45S tax credit provides employers with financial relief to help cover the cost of wages for employees taking family or medical leave. Businesses offering such benefits are reimbursed through reduced tax liability, making it a sustainable framework that benefits employers, employees, and families alike.
“This is a step toward ensuring that employers across the country can continue being first in line to provide for families in times of need,” said Margaret Iuculano, President of the CEA. “American businesses and families make up the backbone of our society, and they deserve our steadfast support.”
If the tax credit were to expire as originally planned at the end of 2025, many employers might face difficult decisions, including the reduction of benefits or workforce layoffs. The action taken by the Senate Finance Committee ensures relief for employers and continues vital support for hundreds of thousands of families.
Iuculano played a key role in the legislative push, speaking on a panel hosted by the Blueprint for Life Pro-Life Coalition to make the case for extending the tax credit. She commended the leadership of Senator Deb Fischer (R-Neb.) for championing the language included in the committee’s approval.
“This victory demonstrates the incredible influence Christian business leaders can have when we unite around biblical principles,” Iuculano said. “Our sustained advocacy has directly resulted in protecting this vital support for working families during life’s most precious moments.”
The Christian Employers Alliance plans to maintain its advocacy efforts as the bill moves forward in the legislative process. The organization is focused on ensuring the final legislation preserves this critical tax credit, allowing businesses to provide paid family and medical leave to employees when they need it most.
Founded in 2016, the Christian Employers Alliance is a national nonprofit representing Christian businesses. It works to defend religious freedom, promote biblical principles in the workplace, and support policies that benefit American families and employers.
