Cheyney Road Bridge Replacement Project Begins in Thornbury Township

Traffic Restrictions

THORNBURY TWP, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that construction will begin Monday, November 3, on an $829,772 project to replace the aging bridge that carries Cheyney Road over a branch of Chester Creek in Thornbury Township, Delaware County.

From Monday, November 3, through Friday, November 7, a weekday lane closure with flagging will be in place on Cheyney Road between Station Road and Thornton Road from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM while crews perform clearing operations. Motorists should expect delays and are encouraged to allow additional travel time. All scheduled work is weather dependent.

The 94-year-old reinforced concrete slab bridge will be replaced with a new reinforced concrete box culvert. The upgraded structure will expand by five feet on each side, accommodating two 11-foot travel lanes and four-foot shoulders to improve safety and traffic flow for local motorists.

J.D. Eckman, Inc., of Atglen, Chester County, is serving as the general contractor for the project, which is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds.
