VALLEY FORGE, PA — Vanguard is expanding its retirement income offerings through a new collaboration with TIAA, aiming to bring guaranteed lifetime income to a broader segment of American workers. The partnership pairs two of the industry’s most established institutions to develop a target-date collective investment trust (CIT) series that integrates an annuity option directly into workplace retirement plans.
The new lineup, called Target Retirement Lifetime Income Trusts, will incorporate the TIAA Secure Income Account, giving participants the ability to convert a portion of their savings into guaranteed income for life. Vanguard said the product is designed to meet growing demand for predictable income as retirees navigate longevity risk, inflation pressures, and increasingly complex financial planning needs.
Lauren Valente, managing director and head of Vanguard Workplace Solutions, said many savers want a blend of flexibility and stability as they enter retirement. She said the collaboration with TIAA provides a way to deliver predictable income within a structure familiar to plan sponsors and participants.
The development marks a notable evolution in target-date design. By embedding a lifetime income component inside a target-date CIT, Vanguard aims to streamline access to annuity benefits that have historically required separate, more complex products. TIAA brings more than a century of annuity experience to the initiative, backed by strong insurance ratings and a long-standing focus on delivering lifetime income solutions.
Colbert Narcisse, chief product officer and head of Insurance Solutions & New Markets at TIAA, said the partnership underscores both organizations’ commitment to addressing shifting workforce needs. He noted that combining Vanguard’s investment expertise with TIAA’s annuity capabilities offers a more secure pathway for workers seeking durable retirement income.
Vanguard said product design and availability details will be released throughout 2026. The companies emphasized that their combined scale and focus on mission-driven retirement solutions aim to help more Americans achieve lasting financial security.
