Universal Pure Expands Malvern Operations With New HPP System as Demand Surges

MALVERN, PA — Universal Pure has expanded its High Pressure Processing capacity with the installation of a fourth Hiperbaric 525i machine at its Malvern, Pennsylvania facility, strengthening the company’s position as North America’s largest independent provider of HPP and cold-chain services.

The upgrade brings Universal Pure’s nationwide HPP footprint to 23 machines across seven facilities, reinforcing its coast-to-coast network at a time of rising demand from food and beverage brands seeking safer, cleaner-label products.

High Pressure Processing uses intense isostatic pressure — up to 87,000 psi — to inactivate pathogens without heat or chemical preservatives, extending shelf life while maintaining taste, texture, and nutritional quality. The technology has become a key tool for fast-growing categories such as fresh pet food, premium proteins, dips and spreads, and ready-to-drink beverages, all of which rely on HPP to meet modern safety and distribution requirements.

Frank Jimenez, chief executive officer of Universal Pure, said customer demand continues to climb as more brands adopt HPP for food safety and shelf-life extension. He said the additional machine increases throughput, improves redundancy, and shortens lead times across the company’s national network.

Universal Pure chose Malvern for the expansion based on its strong regional customer base, transportation access, and growing concentration of Northeast food producers. The facility offers a full suite of services, including HPP, cold storage, packaging and secondary packaging, labeling, kitting, and distribution.

Rob Peregrina, U.S. executive director at Hiperbaric, said Universal Pure has been a longstanding industry leader and early adopter of HPP tolling services. He said the fourth installation in Malvern demonstrates both the company’s growth and its continued investment in advancing food safety technologies.
