MALVERN, PA — A new Skills Report from The Institutes Knowledge Group reveals a clear focus among risk management and insurance (RMI) professionals on foundational and leadership-focused education as critical to career development. Drawing on data from over 182,000 courses completed in 2024, the report provides valuable insights into skill development trends within the industry.

The findings show a high demand for fundamental skills such as risk assessment, coverage analysis, and insurance operations. The Associate in Insurance (AINS®) designation, designed to provide a foundation in insurance knowledge, was the most earned designation in 2024, reflecting the value professionals place on mastering core principles early in their careers.

Leadership-focused education is also on the rise, with a notable increase in enrollments for advanced programs such as the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU®) designation. Four of the top 10 courses completed last year were tied to the CPCU® curriculum, signaling strong interest from an expanding group of emerging leaders seeking to elevate their careers.

These priorities highlight an opportunity for organizations to establish structured learning pathways that guide employees from entry-level roles to leadership positions. With a growing need for leaders capable of addressing challenges across the insurance value chain, providing targeted upskilling and leadership development opportunities is essential for long-term business resilience.

“We are champions for a skills-first approach to professional development that meets learners where they are and helps them get where they want to be,” said Adam Carmichael, CPCU, President of The Institutes Knowledge Group. “And in today’s competitive landscape, upskilling opportunities and a clear pathway to leadership are non-negotiables for job seekers. We are thrilled to provide valuable resources to RMI organizations that help their employees become even more resilient and prepared to meet tomorrow’s challenges.”
