The Institutes, InsuranceAUM Launch CIIM Designation

The Institutes

MALVERN, PA — The Institutes, in collaboration with InsuranceAUM.com, has launched the Chartered Insurance Investment Manager designation, a new professional credential focused on insurance asset management, the organizations announced.

The CIIM designation is designed for professionals managing insurer investment portfolios, which operate under regulatory, capital and accounting constraints distinct from traditional asset management, according to the organizations.

The program was developed by The Institutes Knowledge Group and InsuranceAUM.com, with input from subject matter experts in the insurance investment community. The curriculum includes case studies and applied instruction tailored to insurer financial dynamics, asset-liability management and ethics.

Stewart Foley, founder and senior advisor of InsuranceAUM.com, said the designation addresses a gap in the market. “The insurance industry needed a designation that truly reflects how insurers invest, manage risk, and operate under regulatory and capital constraints,” Foley said.

Adam R. Carmichael, president of The Institutes Knowledge Group, said the program was shaped by practitioners who manage insurer portfolios. “By grounding the program in real-world insurance investment challenges, CIIM equips professionals with practical, insurance-specific knowledge they can apply immediately,” Carmichael said.

The CIIM designation consists of three courses and an ethics requirement and can be completed in approximately six to nine months, the organizations said. Participants who pass the exams and meet the ethics requirement receive a diploma and digital badge.
