CertainTeed Unveils FORTIFIED-Compliant Roofing System in Collaboration with IBHS

CertainTeed

MALVERN, PA — CertainTeed® has teamed up with the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) to offer a comprehensive roofing system that meets the rigorous standards of the IBHS FORTIFIED™ Roof program. This partnership underscores CertainTeed’s mission to enhance home resilience and protect homeowners against severe weather conditions such as high winds, heavy rains, and hail.

The FORTIFIED Roof program is a nationally recognized system that goes beyond standard building codes. By introducing innovative products and installation methods, FORTIFIED Roof provides homes with a layered defense to reduce weather-related damage.

“CertainTeed is proud to align with the IBHS FORTIFIED standards, ensuring our roofing systems deliver long-term durability and unmatched performance for all homeowners,” said James White, Senior Product Manager, Residential Roofing at CertainTeed. “Our expanding portfolio of FORTIFIED-compliant products reflects our commitment to preventing avoidable storm-related losses and supporting homeowners in building more resilient homes to achieve our goal of making the world a better home.”

To support this initiative, CertainTeed has launched two FORTIFIED-compliant roofing components:

  • CertaSeamâ„¢ Roof Tape: This tape seals roof deck joints, preventing water intrusion during high-wind events and serving as a critical product to achieve a FORTIFIED Roof designation.
  • SwiftStart® SA Starter Shingle: A self-adhesive, water-resistant rolled starter shingle, designed for faster installation and improved weather resistance.

These new offerings complement CertainTeed’s existing portfolio of FORTIFIED-ready products, which work together as a system to deliver high-performance protection. From waterproofing underlayments like WinterGuard® PRO and RoofRunner®, to durable shingles such as Landmark® ClimateFlex® and Presidential® Shake® IR, each component ensures resilience in diverse climates and weather conditions. Proper edge and ridge protection products, including filters and caps, complete the roofing system.

Homes built with FORTIFIED standards are proven to better withstand severe weather, and homeowners in over a dozen states may benefit from insurance discounts, grants, or tax credits. States like Alabama, Louisiana, and North Carolina offer financial incentives, with other options available in areas such as Connecticut, Florida, and New York.

Beginning November 1, 2025, only FORTIFIED Certified contractors will be eligible to perform installations for homeowners seeking FORTIFIED benefits, ensuring consistency and compliance with these robust standards.

This collaboration between CertainTeed and IBHS highlights a shared commitment to innovative, secure, and durable home solutions. By offering products that meet FORTIFIED Roof criteria, CertainTeed empowers homeowners to proactively protect their investments while enjoying peace of mind.
