West Chester-Based Verrica Partner Launches YCANTH in Japan

Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc

WEST CHESTER, PA — Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: VRCA) said its partner, Torii Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., has launched YCANTH in Japan for the treatment of molluscum contagiosum following regulatory approval.

Verrica announced that Torii, a wholly owned subsidiary of Shionogi & Co. Ltd., began commercializing the product after receiving approval in September 2025 from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare.

Torii filed its new drug application for the product, developed under the name TO-208, in December 2024, according to Verrica.

Approval was based on results from a confirmatory Phase 3 clinical trial conducted in Japan. The randomized, double-blind, parallel-group study evaluated the efficacy and safety of TO-208 compared with placebo when applied once every 21 days for up to four applications in patients with molluscum.

The primary endpoint measured complete clearance of treatable molluscum lesions at the end of the study. Verrica said the trial met its primary endpoint with statistically significant results compared with placebo and that the treatment was well tolerated.

In July 2025, Verrica said it amended its collaboration and license agreement with Torii to begin transferring manufacturing of YCANTH applicators for the Japanese market. The transfer is expected to take several years.

Until the transfer is completed, Verrica will receive a transfer price for applicators produced by its manufacturing partners. After at least one component of manufacturing is transferred, Verrica will receive royalties on net sales in Japan of applicators produced by Torii or its partners.
