MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has expanded its circuit protection portfolio with two new thin-film chip fuse families aimed at designers grappling with higher power densities and tighter board space.
The company introduced the Vishay Sfernice S2F and S3F series, which are designed to maintain circuit continuity with low resistance while reliably interrupting current during overload conditions. The fuses are offered in 0402, 0603, and 1206 case sizes and are compliant with UL 248-14 standards.
The devices support rated currents ranging from 0.315 amps to 7 amps and are engineered to limit body temperature rise to less than 75 degrees Celsius at full rated current. Vishay said the combination of low resistance and thermal stability is intended to improve reliability in compact electronic designs. The fuses are lead-free, halogen-free, and compliant with RoHS requirements.
The primary distinction between the two series is response speed under overload. The S2F series is classified as fast-acting and is designed to open in less than one minute at 200 percent overload, allowing short-duration current spikes without immediate interruption. The S3F series is very fast-acting, opening in less than five seconds at the same overload level, a feature aimed at protecting sensitive circuits that require rapid fault isolation.
By offering multiple footprint options, precise fusing characteristics, and a broad current range, Vishay said the new products are intended to give designers flexibility while maintaining competitive cost and high reliability. Typical uses include secondary circuit protection in a wide range of electronic systems where stable performance and accurate fault response are critical.
