MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has introduced the industry’s first 150 W low-profile, space-grade planar transformers designed for 28-volt input forward converters, targeting use in avionics, military, and space systems.
The new Vishay Custom Magnetics SGTPL-28 series delivers multiple secondary outputs and is engineered to meet the stringent requirements of MIL-PRF-27 level T, INST-EEE-002, and MIL-STD-981. The transformers are built for high reliability and compact performance, offering lower cost, smaller size, and higher power density than conventional planar transformers.
In addition to 28 V forward converters, the components can be used in high-reliability switch-mode power supplies and dual-switch forward converters. Their multiple secondary windings with center taps allow support for two 12-volt or four 5-volt output channels.
The devices operate at temperatures up to +130°C and are built to endure severe mechanical and thermal stress, including high vibration and repeated thermal shock. Vishay reports that the new transformers achieve up to 40 percent greater winding fill compared with traditional planar devices, translating into improved efficiency, reduced board space, and enhanced power density.
The SGTPL-28 series also incorporates a customizable internal design, allowing engineers to tailor solutions for specific mission-critical requirements without non-recurring engineering costs or extended lead times. The product line offers six screening levels, including options for low Earth orbit and deep-space applications.
Featuring an input voltage range of 18 to 36 volts, a dielectric withstand voltage of 1250 VDC, and a leakage inductance of just 0.5 µH, the SGTPL-28 series expands Vishay’s footprint in advanced aerospace and defense power systems — aligning with the growing demand for compact, rugged, and efficient components in next-generation AMS technologies.
