MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has introduced a new surface-mount Power Metal Strip® current sense resistor that delivers up to 5 W of power in a compact 1206 case size. The component, the Vishay Dale WSLF1206, offers a TCR down to ± 75 ppm/°C and resistance values as low as 0.3 mΩ.
The new resistor’s power density exceeds 650 W/in², providing 20 times the rating of standard 1206 devices. This allows circuit designers to save board space by eliminating the need to parallel multiple resistance elements in high-power applications.
The WSLF1206 features an advanced construction that incorporates a solid metal manganese-copper and nickel-chromium aluminum alloy resistive element with a low TCR of less than 20 ppm/°C. Resistance values range from 0.3 mΩ to 3 mΩ with ± 1.0% and ± 5.0% tolerances. The device also achieves low thermal EMF (< 3 μV/°C) and very low inductance (< 5 nH), minimizing signal distortion.
Designed for current sensing and pulse applications, the resistor is suited for use in switching and linear power supplies, power amplifiers, shunts, inverters, and battery management systems. Target markets include industrial motor drives, robotics, HVAC systems, UPS, power tools, data storage, supercomputing VRMs, and consumer appliances.
The WSLF1206 is sulfur-resistant, RoHS-compliant, and halogen-free, reinforcing Vishay’s focus on reliability and environmental compliance in high-demand electronics.
