MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced that its SGTPL-28 series of 150 W low-profile, space-grade planar transformers has been named a finalist for the 2025 Elektra Awards in the “Passive / Interconnection / Electromechanical Product of the Year” category.
The SGTPL-28 series is the industry’s first line of transformers optimized for 28 V input forward converters in aerospace and defense applications. Engineered to meet MIL-PRF-27 level T, INST-EEE-002, and MIL-STD-981 standards, the devices are designed to deliver smaller size, higher density, and lower cost compared to traditional planar transformers.
Presented annually by Electronics Weekly, the Elektra Awards recognize innovation and performance across the global electronics industry. Winners are selected by an independent panel of judges across 17 categories.
Vishay’s devices are tailored for high-reliability switch mode power supplies, as well as active clamp and dual switch forward converters. With multiple secondary windings and a center tap, the transformers can power up to two 12 V channels or four 5 V channels.
The rugged construction features over-molded windings and supports high-temperature operation up to +130 °C, while enduring thermal shock cycles and high levels of mechanical stress. Offering up to 40% greater winding fill than traditional designs, the series improves efficiency and saves PCB space. Customization is simplified through its winding technology, with short lead times and no non-recurring engineering charges in most cases.
The Elektra Awards ceremony will highlight standout innovations across the electronics sector, with Vishay’s SGTPL-28 series positioned as a strong contender for its advancements in aerospace-grade power solutions.
