MALVERN, PA — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) has announced the launch of its new WSZ lead form option for the AC03-CS series of axial cemented, leaded wirewound safety resistors. The innovative WSZ lead form enables these resistors to function as surface-mount components, helping to streamline production, reduce assembly times, and lower overall costs.
The AC03-CS series is designed to serve as inrush current limiting resistors during normal usage and function as pre-charge, discharge, and snubber resistors in various applications. These devices are critical to ensuring silent and safe fusing in environments such as automotive electronics, energy meters, industrial drive systems, and consumer appliances, especially when exposed to high DC voltage overloads or accidental AC mains voltage.
Engineered for demanding conditions, the resistors operate in a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +200 °C and are coated with a robust, non-flammable silicone cement conforming to UL 94 V-0 standards. This further enhances safety by protecting the printed circuit board (PCB) and other components during electrical overloads, effectively eliminating the need for additional fuses.
AEC-Q200 qualified, the AC03-CS series boasts a high surge voltage capability of up to 4 kV (1.2/50 µs pulse as per IEC 61000-4-5) and a power rating of 3 W at 40 °C ambient temperature. Available in resistance values ranging from 1 Ω to 100 Ω, the devices maintain a resistance tolerance of ± 5% and a temperature coefficient (TCR) of ± 200 ppm/K. The resistors also meet RoHS compliance, are halogen-free, and adhere to Vishay’s Green manufacturing standards, ensuring environmental and operational sustainability.
By introducing the WSZ lead form for surface-mount applications, Vishay has further enhanced the versatility and efficiency of its AC03-CS series. The advancement addresses key industry requirements in automotive, industrial, and consumer electronics, where reliability, space-saving designs, and cost-efficiency are increasingly important.
These enhanced resistors reinforce Vishay’s commitment to delivering innovative, high-performance components tailored to the evolving demands of modern electronic systems.
