Vishay Debuts Rugged 30W Power Resistor Built for Next-Gen Electric Vehicles

Vishay Intertechnology

MALVERN, PAVishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) introduced a new AEC-Q200 qualified, high-power thick film resistor engineered to withstand the extreme conditions of next-generation electric and hybrid vehicles, the company announced.

The new Vishay Sfernice LTA 30 delivers 30 watts of power in a compact TO-220 package designed for direct heatsink mounting. Built for high reliability, the component endures temperatures up to +125 °C, resists humidity and vibration, and maintains stability under electrical stress — features critical for safety-sensitive automotive systems.

With a 500-volt operating voltage and overload capability of 1.5 times its rated power for five seconds, the LTA 30 is designed to perform consistently during voltage spikes and transient events common in advanced EV platforms.

The device supports an expansive resistance range from 0.010 ohms to 450 kilohms with tolerances as tight as ±1 percent. Vishay says the resistor is suited for precharge and discharge functions in on-board chargers, battery management systems and motor control units used in EVs, hybrids and plug-in hybrids. It also features a non-inductive design and a dielectric strength of 1500 Vrms.

The RoHS-compliant component expands Vishay’s portfolio of automotive-grade power resistors as demand accelerates for durable electronics capable of supporting high-voltage mobility technologies.
