BERWYN, PA — Mural Health announced it has expanded global payment capabilities within its Mural Link participant management platform to enable local payments to clinical trial participants in multiple countries.
The update allows trial participants to receive compensation through local payment methods such as mobile wallets and domestic bank transfers rather than international wire transfers, the company said.
Clinical trial participants are typically reimbursed for time and expenses such as transportation, childcare, and lost wages.
Mural Health said international wire transfers can take several days to process and may involve fees from both sending and receiving banks.
Payment challenges can be greater in regions where many residents do not have access to traditional banking services.
In Argentina, for example, roughly half of the population is unbanked, limiting the use of wire transfers and prepaid debit cards, according to the company.
Sam Whitaker, founder and chief executive officer of Mural Health, said the expanded payment capability addresses barriers faced by trial participants in some international markets.
“We’ve heard both from clinical trial sites in LatAm and from sponsors that the standard payment methods offered by global payment partners do not address their local needs and preferences,” Whitaker said.
Under the updated system, payments in global trials using Mural Link are processed as local transactions within a participant’s country rather than cross-border transfers.
The company said the system is designed to reduce processing time, lower transaction costs, and avoid cross-border tax complications that may occur with international payments.
Mural Link also provides tools for managing trial participant reimbursements, travel coordination, communication, and satisfaction tracking, the company said.
