NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr Foods Inc. has filed a request with Gov. Josh Shapiro to designate an official “Herr’s Sour Cream & Onion Day” in Pennsylvania, the company announced.

The proposed observance, targeted for April 2026, is intended to recognize the popularity of sour cream and onion-flavored potato chips in the state, where Herr’s says it is the top-selling brand in that category.

The company is also encouraging consumers to support the effort by signing a public petition. Information about the initiative is available at https://www.herrs.com/ifyousco.

Herr Foods said the proclamation request is part of a broader effort to highlight the company’s long-standing presence in Pennsylvania and the demand for the flavor among consumers statewide.

“In Philadelphia and across the Commonwealth, consumers have made Herr’s the top choice in sour cream and onion chips,” said Ed Herr, executive chairman of the board. “We hope that our Honorable Governor will formally recognize sour cream and onion as one of Pennsylvania’s favorite snacking flavors.”

Herr’s also recently expanded its product line tied to the flavor, including a new sour cream and French onion potato chip and a sour cream and onion-flavored popcorn product.
