Venerable Promotes Lee Barnard to Deputy General Counsel

WEST CHESTER, PA — Venerable promoted Lee Barnard to senior vice president and deputy general counsel, the company announced.

Barnard, who joined the company in 2020, has led legal structuring and negotiations for mergers, acquisitions, and reinsurance transactions, while advising finance, risk, and investment management teams.

He also oversees senior attorneys and participates in governance and enterprise initiatives, according to the company.

“Lee has played a critical role in Venerable’s growth trajectory, supporting our key transactions,” said Tim Brown, executive vice president and chief legal officer.

Brown said Barnard’s work has included involvement in transactions with Equitable Financial, Manulife Financial, and Corebridge Financial, as well as the creation of Venerable Investment Advisers.

Before joining Venerable, Barnard held roles at Franklin Square Holdings as executive director and assistant general counsel, and worked at law firms Kirkland & Ellis LLP and Debevoise & Plimpton LLP.

Barnard holds a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and a bachelor’s degree from Emory University.

Venerable, based in West Chester, Pennsylvania, manages legacy variable annuity businesses and operates in multiple U.S. locations, including Iowa, Texas, and New York.
