Vanguard Appoints Natalie Lamarque as Chief Legal Officer

VALLEY FORGE, PA — Vanguard announced that Natalie Lamarque will join the firm as Chief Legal Officer, overseeing all legal and compliance activities, public policy, and investment stewardship. In addition, she will serve as managing director of Vanguard’s legal division, secretary of the Vanguard Board of Directors, and secretary of the Vanguard funds.

Lamarque joins Vanguard from Principal Financial Group, where she served as executive vice president, general counsel, and secretary since 2022. She previously held senior leadership roles at New York Life Insurance Company and began her legal career as a federal district court and court of appeals law clerk, later working as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and as an associate at Debevoise & Plimpton.

“Natalie has spent her career ensuring everyday investors get a fair shake and helping people achieve a secure retirement,” said Vanguard CEO Salim Ramji. “She brings exceptional legal expertise and a deep understanding of the global regulatory environment. We are thrilled to add her leadership and judgment across business, legal, and policy matters to the firm.”

Lamarque holds a B.A. cum laude and a J.D. magna cum laude from Duke University. She currently serves on the boards of City Year, Inc. and the Association of Life Insurance Counsel and is a member of the NYU School of Law’s Board of Advisors for its Program on Corporate Compliance and Enforcement.
