VALLEY FORGE, PA — PJM Interconnection, the nation’s largest electric grid operator, announced a series of senior leadership appointments designed to strengthen its executive team as the organization prepares for a major leadership transition in early 2026.
Effective January 7, 2026, Stu Bresler, currently Executive Vice President of Market Services and Strategy, will assume the role of Chief Operating Officer. In his new position, Bresler will oversee Operations, Markets, Planning, Information Technology Services, and Security & Business Continuity. A 30-year industry veteran, he has been instrumental in shaping PJM’s corporate strategy and market design.
Aftab Khan, currently Executive Vice President of Operations, Planning & Security, will become Chief Strategy Officer, leading cross-functional initiatives and long-term transformation efforts. Khan joined PJM in 2024 after serving as senior vice president of engineering at Eversource Energy and holding prior leadership roles at GE and ABB.
Adam Keech, Vice President of Market Design & Economics, will be promoted to Senior Vice President of Market Services, where he will lead PJM’s Markets Division. Keech, who joined PJM in 2003, has played a key role in real-time operations, market design, and NERC compliance.
“This new structure will strengthen our Executive Team and allow the incoming CEO to focus early on the external work of building strong relationships with stakeholders, regulators and state leaders, and navigating the evolving energy landscape,” said David Mills, Board Chair of PJM.
The appointments come as PJM’s Board of Managers continues its search for a new President and CEO to succeed Manu Asthana, who announced plans to step down at the end of 2025 after six years leading the organization. If a successor is not named by January 1, 2026, Mills will serve as interim president and CEO to ensure continuity.
“The Board is committed to finding the best candidate to lead PJM through the numerous challenges facing the industry, and that meticulous process continues,” Mills added.
PJM manages the flow of electricity for more than 65 million people across 13 states and Washington, D.C., overseeing grid reliability, energy markets, and system planning during a period of rapid change in the U.S. energy sector.
