NOTTINGHAM, PA — Herr Foods Inc. has announced a leadership transition as it enters a new chapter in its nearly 80-year history.
Ed Herr, who has served as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board, is moving into the role of Executive Chairman. His nephew, Troy Gunden, a third-generation family member with more than two decades at the company, has been appointed Chief Executive Officer and President.
Gunden has spent 21 years with Herr’s, including the last six as President, where he oversaw day-to-day operations and helped drive growth while maintaining the company’s family-centered culture. In his new role, he will assume full responsibility for the company’s operations and strategy.
“I am humbled and excited to step into this role,” Gunden said. “Herr’s is more than a company — it’s a family, a legacy, and a commitment to our employees, customers, and community. I look forward to building on the foundation my grandparents and the second generation created, as we continue to deliver the snacks people love and trust.”
Ed Herr described the transition as both a personal milestone and a strategic step for the company. “Leading Herr’s has been one of the greatest honors of my life,” he said. “With Troy’s leadership, I am confident Herr’s will continue to thrive for generations to come.”
Under Ed Herr’s leadership, Herr Foods expanded significantly, guided by a focus on innovation, customer satisfaction, and company culture. As Executive Chairman, he will remain actively involved in shaping long-term strategy, mentoring leadership, and supporting board development.
Founded in 1946 in Nottingham, Pennsylvania, Herr Foods has grown from a small family business into one of the most recognizable regional snack brands in the United States. The company remains committed to its founding values of quality, community engagement, and family leadership — now carried forward into a third generation.
