WEST CHESTER, PA — After 17 years of dedication and commitment to Community Volunteers in Medicine, Maureen Tomoschuk, president and CEO of Community will retire. Under Maureen’s leadership, CVIM grew consistently and strategically, rising to meet changing community needs. She enters retirement with heartfelt thanks from the CVIM community.
Following a comprehensive six-month search led by a board-level committee, CVIM is pleased to announce Karen Kofalt as its new President and CEO.
Karen is a seasoned healthcare executive, who previously served as Main Line Health’s Health System Vice President of Professional Services. Her impressive career is marked by significant achievements in patient care, safety, quality improvement, strategic growth, and organizational transformation.
The Search Committee selected Kofalt for excellence in several areas, including mission alignment, strategic leadership, operations management, and health care expertise. “We are excited for Karen to join the CVIM community and are confident she will excel as CVIM’s next chief executive,” said John Elicker, Board Chair of CVIM. “She understands the impact our outstanding staff and volunteers have on our patients and their families. She has the leadership skills, healthcare operations experience, and collaborative management style to lead us through our next chapter of service to the community.”
“It is an incredible honor to join such a talented team and contribute to an organization so committed to serving our local community,” said Kofalt. “The contributions that CVIM and its staff make to our community are both critical and well known. I am inspired by this work, grateful for this opportunity and excited for this next chapter.”
Karen will be just the third President in CVIM’s 27-year history. Maureen and Karen worked together through June to ensure a smooth transition. As we step into this new chapter, the CVIM Board, staff, and volunteers remain committed to our mission – providing comprehensive, compassionate health care to low-income, uninsured working families.
About Community Volunteers in Medicine
Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) was founded in 1998 to provide healthcare, hope and healing to local uninsured working adults and their children. CVIM has treated thousands of patients since its opening and last year cared for nearly 5,000 patients during 45,672 visits. Primary and specialty medical care, comprehensive dental services, and free prescription medicines are provided to uninsured individuals and families earning less than 300% of the federal poverty level. Care is given in a comfortable setting by compassionate volunteer licensed healthcare professionals, support volunteers, and a core staff. CVIM’s operating budget is supported entirely by a generous community of philanthropic individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations and civic groups.
