EXTON, PA — Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Nasdaq: BSY) and Enactus announced the launch last week of the 2025 iTwin4Good Challenge, an international competition aimed at empowering university students to develop digital twin solutions that address global infrastructure challenges. The program seeks to simultaneously foster innovation and fill the critical talent gap in the infrastructure sector.
The initiative arrives during a time of increasing strain on the industry. According to the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Research Institute, nearly half of U.S. engineering firms report project backlogs exceeding one year. Meanwhile, the Associated Builders and Contractors estimates a shortage of over 400,000 workers in construction.
The iTwin4Good Challenge aims to bridge the gap by nurturing a new generation of leaders capable of creating innovative solutions through advanced digital technologies. Over a six-week period, students will receive technical training on Bentley’s iTwin platform and mentorship from industry professionals. They will also have the opportunity to earn certification as iTwin Developer Associates. Competing solo or in teams of up to three, participants will produce applications that drive meaningful environmental or social impact within their communities.
“The iTwin4Good Challenge is more than a student competition, it’s a catalyst for change and a strategic investment in the future of infrastructure,” said Chris Bradshaw, Bentley Systems’ chief sustainability and education officer. “By engaging young minds in real-world problem-solving and equipping the next generation with digital twin expertise, we’re cultivating talent capable of addressing both today’s infrastructure needs and tomorrow’s sustainability challenges.”
From June through October 2025, students representing the U.S., Germany, Canada, the UK and Ireland, and Brazil will compete in national rounds. Top contenders will advance to a virtual global finale, with the ultimate champion earning the chance to showcase their project at the Enactus World Cup 2025 in Bangkok.
Highlighting the partnership’s purpose-driven mission, George Tsiatis, president and CEO of Enactus Global & Resolution Project, stated, “This partnership exemplifies what we do best—empowering students to tackle real-world challenges through innovation and entrepreneurship. When young people combine cutting-edge technology with purpose-driven action, they don’t just solve today’s problems, they build the foundation for a more sustainable future.”
By combining ambitious challenges, expert mentorship, and cutting-edge technology, the iTwin4Good Challenge underscores the potential for innovation and education to address workforce shortages and redefine the future of infrastructure.
