KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — Washington Memorial Chapel’s Veteran’s Commission has announced that it will be hosting a moving Choral Matins Service on Thursday, July 4 at 11 AM at the historic Washington Memorial Chapel. This annual Independence Day tradition honors the service and sacrifice of America’s veterans and military families with music, prayer, and reflection.
Set within the sacred space of the Chapel—built as a tribute to General George Washington and the Continental Army—the Choral Matins service will feature the Chapel Choir presenting stirring patriotic hymns and sacred music. Scripture readings, prayers for the nation, and a sermon that reflects the enduring principles of freedom, courage, and faith will accompany the musical selections. Father Tim Steeves, priest associate for the Chapel, will preside over the service and offer special remarks about the importance of celebrating our nation’s founding while also remembering the men and women who have upheld the promise of liberty throughout our history.
Following the Choral Matins, a picnic lunch will be held in the Bishop White Courtyard on the Chapel’s grounds at 12 PM. The event is free and open to the public however a $10 donation is requested. RSVP here: https://evite.me/5tEBqXy3nd. Guests are invited to stay after the lunch to enjoy the Chapel’s popular annual Independence Day Carillon Concert starting at 2 PM. Featuring patriotic selections and music by American composers played by Chapel Carillonneur Doug Gefvert, this event is sponsored by the Washington Memorial Heritage and free and open to the public.
