PENNSYLVANIA — A new survey of more than 3,000 Americans has named the Pocono Mountains as the most sought-after cabin getaway in Pennsylvania, highlighting the region’s enduring reputation as a four-season retreat. Conducted by Texas Real Estate Source, the nationwide poll ranked the Poconos 32nd overall among 100 U.S. destinations, highlighting the area’s affordability, scenic appeal, and strong cabin market.

The study asked respondents which parts of the country they would most like to own a log cabin. Colorado dominated the top ranks, with Estes Park and Pagosa Springs taking the first and second spots, followed by destinations in California, Tennessee, and New York.

In Pennsylvania, three regions earned a place among the nation’s most desirable cabin locales. The Pocono Mountains led the state, praised for their combination of wooded ridges, lakeside views, and accessible price points. Monroe County’s median home price sits in the low-to-mid $300,000 range, keeping the region within reach for buyers seeking a mountain escape close to major East Coast metros.

The Laurel Highlands ranked 33rd, recognized for its rolling hills, state parks, and affordability. With average home values in Fayette and Somerset counties in the low-$200,000s, the area appeals to both families and outdoor enthusiasts seeking a year-round retreat. Pine Creek Gorge, known as the “Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania,” came in 84th, drawing attention for its dramatic fall vistas and rustic cabin charm at relatively modest prices.

“Cabins capture something timeless—the idea of retreating into nature without losing the warmth of home,” said Tony Gilbert, founder of Texas Real Estate Source. “Whether people picture snow on the roof, leaves at their doorstep, or a lake just outside the window, the appeal is the same: a cabin feels like your own little piece of the world.”
