PENNSYLVANIA — When it comes to autumn’s most breathtaking vistas, Pennsylvania holds its own among America’s most iconic leaf-peeping destinations. A new national survey by travel company Exoticca ranked Big Pocono Overlook in Big Pocono State Park as the No. 1 fall viewpoint in Pennsylvania and No. 10 nationwide, while Hyner View Overlook in Clinton County earned a spot at No. 46.
The survey, based on responses from 3,012 travelers, asked Americans to identify the most stunning places to experience peak fall foliage across the country. While New York’s Overlook Mountain claimed the top spot overall, the inclusion of two Pennsylvania overlooks underscores the Commonwealth’s growing appeal as a premier autumn travel destination.
Perched atop Camelback Mountain, Big Pocono Overlook offers sweeping views across three states — Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York. Each October, the Pocono Plateau bursts into color, with crimson maples, golden birches, and russet oaks blanketing the landscape. On clear days, visitors can see all the way to the Delaware River Valley, making it one of the most commanding autumn panoramas in the Northeast.
Further north, Hyner View Overlook in Hyner View State Park delivers a more dramatic perspective — a stone terrace set nearly 1,300 feet above the West Branch of the Susquehanna River. The overlook’s cliffside vantage point offers an eagle’s-eye view of forested ridges and river valleys painted in vivid seasonal hues.
“Fall is one of the most visually stunning times to travel across the U.S.,” said Juanjo Duran, Chief Marketing Officer of Exoticca. “What’s striking is how personal the experience of autumn is — for some, it’s about quiet mountain overlooks, while for others, it’s the burst of color around a lakeside trail.”
Pennsylvania’s pair of top-ranking viewpoints place it among America’s fall tourism heavyweights, alongside destinations in Vermont, Colorado, and the Great Smoky Mountains. For travelers seeking crisp air, mountain ridges, and a front-row seat to nature’s annual masterpiece, Big Pocono and Hyner View stand as two of the most vivid reminders that autumn’s finest colors aren’t limited to New England.
