MIQUON, PA — The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) has announced that 56 girls across its 9-county region have earned the esteemed Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouting. These exceptional young leaders will be celebrated during an in-person Highest Awards ceremony on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center as part of GSEP’s GirlzDay: Our World, Our Way event.
The Gold Award recognizes Girl Scout Seniors and Ambassadors in grades 9-12 who demonstrate leadership, initiative, and creativity through sustainable and impactful Take Action projects. To earn the award, each Girl Scout identifies a local community issue, develops a detailed plan to address it, organizes a team, and executes a solution designed to create lasting change.
“Year after year, our Girl Scouts amaze us with their impactful and creative Take Action projects,” said Kim E. Fraites-Dow, CEO of GSEP. “We are honored to celebrate the 56 Girl Scouts who have earned the prestigious Gold Award in our council – a reflection of the Girl Scouts mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character to make the world a better place.”
This year’s projects tackled a range of critical topics, such as female leadership in STEM, addressing gun violence through educational events, and creating a documentary about local women veterans. Collectively, these Gold Award recipients contributed over 5,400 hours of community service. The value of their efforts, based on national volunteer hour standards, is estimated at nearly $190,000.
The Gold Award offers long-term benefits to its recipients. Achieving this honor opens doors to scholarships, college admissions opportunities, and advanced ranking in the U.S. armed forces, setting a strong foundation for future success.
Additionally, GSEP will acknowledge the efforts of 103 Girl Scouts who earned the Silver Award, the highest distinction for Cadette Girl Scouts in grades 6-8, further showcasing their commitment to creating positive change in their communities.
Through leadership, perseverance, and creativity, this year’s Gold and Silver Award recipients have not only addressed immediate challenges but also left a lasting impact that will benefit their communities for years to come.
