MALVERN, PA — One of the Main Line’s most cherished spring traditions is preparing to thunder back onto the turf as the Radnor Hunt Races return for their 95th running this May, bringing a day of horse racing, community celebration, and outdoor festivities to Chester County.
Held each year on the third Saturday in May, the Radnor Hunt Races have long been a hallmark of the region’s social calendar. Spectators gather trackside to watch steeplechase racing while enjoying picnics, tailgates, and the festive atmosphere that has defined the event for generations.
This year’s races carry special meaning as well. The 2026 event will mark the final year the Brandywine Conservancy serves as the sole operator and beneficiary of the races after guiding the event for 45 years.
Over the decades, proceeds from the races have helped support the Conservancy’s open space preservation and clean water initiatives throughout the Brandywine region—an effort often described as “Racing for Open Space.”
Organizers say the upcoming event will celebrate both the nearly century-long history of the races and the Conservancy’s four-and-a-half decades of leadership in stewarding the tradition.
With the centennial running approaching later in the decade, plans are already underway to transition the event to a new operator who will help guide the Radnor Hunt Races into their next chapter.
In the meantime, this year’s celebration promises to deliver the same pageantry and excitement that has drawn generations of spectators to the countryside each spring.
A Main Line Tradition
For many families across the Main Line and Chester County, the Radnor Hunt Races represent the unofficial start of the region’s outdoor social season. Guests arrive early to set up elaborate tailgates and picnic spreads before enjoying a full afternoon of steeplechase racing.
The event also draws corporate sponsors, horse racing enthusiasts, and longtime supporters who return year after year to experience the spectacle of thoroughbreds and jockeys navigating the historic course.
Corporate sponsorship and advertising opportunities are also available for organizations interested in supporting the event.
