PHOENIXVILLE, PA — Horror and sci-fi enthusiasts will gather in Phoenixville this summer for the 26th annual Blobfest, a celebrated tribute to the 1958 classic film The Blob and the iconic Colonial Theatre. From July 11 to July 13, the three-day festival will blend nostalgia and creativity with a packed lineup of events and new features designed to thrill movie buffs of all ages.
Hosted at the historic Colonial Theatre, which played a starring role in The Blob, the festival highlights the film’s famous scene of terrified moviegoers rushing from the theater to escape the otherworldly creature. Over the years, Blobfest has become more than just a homage to the cult classic; it’s a community celebration of creativity, film, and connection.
“Blobfest is more than just a celebration of such a classic film; it’s a celebration of community, creativity, and the enduring legacy of the Colonial Theatre,” said Jennifer Carlson, Executive Director of the Colonial Theatre. “Each year, we’re thrilled to see generations of fans come together in Phoenixville to embrace the weird, the wonderful, and the wonderfully weird. With this year’s new additions and expanded access, we’re proud to make Blobfest more inclusive, more imaginative, and more unforgettable than ever.”
This year’s theme, “Camp Blobfest,” is set to deliver an over-the-top experience with signature events like the Fire Extinguisher Parade and costume contest, as well as various screenings of The Blob in both its original and Spanish-language versions (La Masa Devoradora). Enhancing the festival’s inclusivity, the Colonial Theatre is offering free tickets to all Spanish-language screenings, supported by an $8,000 grant from PECO’s Equal Access to Arts and Culture program.
Brand-new highlights at Blobfest 2025 include a Family Fun Zone debuting during Saturday’s street fair. Designed for young fans, the space will feature creative activities like public mural painting, movement and improv classes, and line dancing lessons. Local Latin music DJ Jholi will energize the street fair crowd with a high-energy set leading into Saturday evening’s Spanish-language film screening.
The festival kicks off on July 11 with the sold-out Blobfest Stage Show and a reenactment of the famous Run-Out scene. Leading the festivities is horror hostess and camp counselor Aurora Gorealis, hosting live music and the Shorty’s Short Film Contest. After the Run-Out, guests can dance the night away at the Blob Ball, a 1950s-style rock ‘n’ roll party complete with themed cocktails and live music.
July 12 will see the return of the popular Camp Blobfest Street Fair, featuring more than 70 vendors, live entertainment, exclusive merchandise, and a kids’ activity zone. Festivalgoers can enjoy multiple screenings of The Blob along with other sci-fi classics and compete in the beloved costume contest.
The festival concludes on July 13 with a morning Blobfest 5K, 10K, and Half Marathon, celebrating the local community while supporting the Colonial Theatre. The final day also includes more film screenings, ensuring every attendee departs with a dose of sci-fi joy.
