WEST CHESTER, PA — SALT Performing Arts is gearing up to present their rendition of the Tony Award-winning musical Sweeney Todd from May 30 through June 15, 2025, at their West Chester location. The dark, thrilling production promises to captivate audiences with Stephen Sondheim’s compelling tale of love, revenge, and murder, paired with a full 18-piece live orchestra and an all-star cast.
“Sweeney Todd explores the dark side of human nature, the so-called bad wolf,” said Lauren McComas, President and Artistic Director of SALT Performing Arts. “Our production delves into the show’s dark themes through an intimate black-and-white lens that will draw you close to the characters while unflinchingly portraying the bloody heart of their tale.”
The cast features Thomas Dempsey as Sweeney Todd, Ally Hagan as Mrs. Lovett, and Emily Sgroi as Johanna, among others. Directed and choreographed by Chelsea Barnett and brought to life with Robbie Merow’s design expertise, the production combines gripping performances with arresting visuals to immerse the audience in its 19th-century London setting.
Beyond the stage, SALT Performing Arts demonstrates its commitment to community impact through its partnership with the Chester County Food Bank. Audience members are encouraged to bring plastic bottles of ketchup to each performance, supporting the food bank’s mission. Additionally, $1 from every ticket sale will be donated directly to the nonprofit.
Performances will take place at SALT’s venue at 19 Hagerty Blvd, West Chester, PA, with a total of 11 showings, including a champagne-filled opening night on Friday, May 30, at 7 PM. Tickets are available for purchase online, with mask-optional seating and handicap accessibility provided.
Rated R for its mature content and violence, Sweeney Todd offers a riveting theatrical experience for adult audiences. The production marks another milestone for SALT, showcasing world-class artistry while fostering a strong sense of community engagement through creative partnerships and charitable initiatives.
