MALVERN, PA — The Great Valley School Board on February 25 approved the appointment of Dr. Joseph Alcaro as the district’s K-12 supervisor of teaching and learning, with a focus on social studies and other humanities.
The vote took place during the board’s regular meeting, district officials announced.
Alcaro currently serves as supervisor of grades 7–12 curriculum and instruction at Exeter Township School District, where he oversees instructional programming and curriculum alignment.
According to the district, his work has included professional development initiatives, expansion of Advanced Placement and dual enrollment offerings and oversight of the district’s Cyber Academy.
Before becoming a supervisor, Alcaro served as assistant principal at both the elementary and secondary levels in Exeter Township.
He previously spent 16 years at Wyomissing Area Junior Senior High School as a social studies teacher and department chair.
Superintendent Dr. Daniel Goffredo said Alcaro’s background will support district academic initiatives.
“His deep experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, and district-wide assessment leadership will be an invaluable asset as we continue to advance academic excellence for all our students,” Goffredo said.
Alcaro holds a doctorate in education administration and leadership from Pennsylvania Western University, a principal certification from Alvernia University, a master’s degree in education from Wilkes University and a bachelor’s degree in social studies education from Millersville University.
In a statement, Alcaro said he looks forward to joining the district’s leadership team.
“With more than 20 years of experience in public education, I remain just as passionate today about creating exciting, engaging opportunities for students and teachers as I was at the start of my career,” he said.
For families in the Great Valley School District, the appointment places a new district-level leader in charge of curriculum oversight and instructional support across all grade levels.
