Great Valley High School Honors Coach David Moffett’s Legacy

The Great Valley Boys Soccer Team with Coach Moffett

MALVERN, PA — Great Valley High School paid tribute to longtime soccer coach David Moffett on September 6 with an “Honoring Legacy” halftime ceremony during the varsity and junior varsity matches against Boyertown. The event drew a large turnout of former players, families, and community members celebrating Moffett’s 28-year career.

From 1997 to 2024, Moffett led the Great Valley Boys Soccer program to 23 District Qualifiers, two District Championships, and two State Final appearances. Beyond the team’s achievements, he was recognized for mentoring players and fostering a culture built on teamwork and strong relationships.

“I was honored and humbled by so many former players and their families taking the time to come out to be part of the celebration,” Moffett said. “One of our core principles that we stressed was the development of chemistry within the team, with an emphasis on building relationships and creating memorable moments. Seeing so many players come back means that they still value those principles and still feel connected. That is really gratifying.”

During the ceremony, Moffett was presented with a framed Great Valley soccer jersey, and former players and colleagues reflected on his influence on and off the field. In addition to coaching, he continues to serve as a math teacher at the school.

Looking ahead, Moffett expressed confidence in his successor, longtime assistant coach Bern McCauley. “I have no doubt that Bern…will continue to build on the foundation that has been established,” he said. “Being a part of GV Soccer is something special and I am so happy that so many former players and their parents feel the same way.”
