DOWNINGTOWN, PA — Student leaders from the Drishti Foundation in the Downingtown Area School District (DASD) visited Pickering Valley Elementary School to donate a solar kit, giving younger students a hands-on opportunity to explore renewable energy.
The team of students managed the project from start to finish, including analyzing the school’s energy needs, researching solar technologies, fundraising, and preparing a live demonstration for elementary students.
Project lead Akshara Raparla, a DASD high school student, described the effort as both personal and educational. “I wanted to give back to Pickering Valley, which was my elementary school from years ago,” Raparla said. “This is a meaningful way to blend sustainability, education, and gratitude to Downingtown Area School District.”
Raparla worked alongside Viraaj Jairath of Downingtown STEM Academy; Akshita Sikhakolli and Shravya Srirangam of Downingtown High School East; Aaditri Manocha of Lionville Middle School; and alumni advisor Aneesh Raparla.
The initiative highlights how DASD students are applying leadership, collaboration, and technical skills to create lasting educational opportunities, while inspiring younger peers to think about sustainability and innovation.
