HARRISBURG, PA — Fifteen students from Avon Grove School District (AGSD) were honored this week at the Migrant Education Program (MEP) Graduation, held at Harrisburg Area Community College. The ceremony recognized not only the academic accomplishments of the graduates but also their resilience, perseverance, and cultural pride, which defined their educational journeys.
The event brought together students, families, educators, and community partners, reflecting a collective celebration of this significant milestone. Attendees included representatives from the Chester County Intermediate Unit, Migrant Education Program, Technical College High School, The Garage Community & Youth Center, and AGSD.
“This celebration is more than a graduation—it’s a testament to the determination, resilience, and heart of our students and their families,” said Dr. Scott DeShong, superintendent of AGSD. “Their journeys inspire all of us in education to keep striving to make sure every learner is prepared to succeed and lead full and meaningful lives.”
Acknowledging the graduates’ hard work and adaptability, Emlyn Frangiosa, supervisor of teaching and learning, emphasized the unique challenges these students overcame. “Our students have learned how to navigate a new language, build friendships, and become culturally flexible—all while staying focused on their dreams,” Frangiosa said. “Today is a celebration of their courage, hard work, and the families and educators who supported them every step of the way.”
The ceremony featured heartfelt speeches and reflective moments as students prepared for the next steps in their lives. Whether pursuing higher education, job training, or entering the workforce, each graduate left with a renewed sense of purpose and pride in their achievements.
English as a Second Language Teacher Katrina DePalma shared her reflections on the event. “Today’s ceremony was a beautiful celebration of our MEP graduates,” DePalma said. “Thinking about who our students were four years ago and seeing how far they’ve come really shows how strong and resilient they are. Seeing them recognized today made me so proud, and it was beyond well deserved. Congrats, MEP Class of 2025!”
The Migrant Education Program Graduation is a reminder of the power of education and community. It highlights the stories of strength, determination, and transformation behind every achievement, further illustrating the profound impact of the MEP and its partners.
