PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit has named Christopher Knechel the new principal of the Technical College High School Pickering campus, tapping a veteran educator with two decades of experience and a strong background in student support, special education, and career and technical programming.
Knechel, who joined TCHS Pickering as assistant principal in October, has already provided “great stability and guidance,” said CCIU Executive Director Dr. George F. Fiore. He said Knechel’s leadership record and expertise make him well positioned to strengthen the school community and advance its mission.
“His more than 20 years of experience as an educator and administrator, coupled with his expertise in special education, strategic student support, and career and technical education programming, assures us that he will continue to strengthen this community,” Fiore said. “We are confident he will lead the school with a clear vision for student success.”
Before joining TCHS, Knechel served as an assistant principal in the Reading School District, where he led the Red Knight Accelerated Academy and oversaw operations, scheduling, and student support efforts rooted in restorative practices and targeted academic interventions. He also held positions with FullBloom (Camelot Education) and the Council Rock School District.
Beyond the classroom, Knechel has been an assistant football coach at Williamson College of the Trades and an active firefighter and fundraising chair with the Towamencin Fire Company since 2003.
Holding a master’s degree in education from Holy Family University and a bachelor’s degree in secondary history education from King’s College, Knechel brings a blend of instructional expertise and community service experience to the principal role.
Dr. Steven Leever, CCIU’s director of career, technical, and customized education, said Knechel’s passion for student-centered leadership makes him an ideal fit.
“Chris exemplifies what it means to be a student-focused leader,” Leever said. His commitment to continuous improvement and advocacy for students “aligns perfectly with our mission to innovate programs that enhance the lives of learners.”
Knechel said he looks forward to expanding hands-on, career-focused opportunities for students.
“Students are at the core of everything we do, and I’m honored to work with such an amazing, dedicated staff,” he said. “Together, we’ll build strong connections to ensure the best possible experience and success for all.”
CCIU officials expressed confidence that Knechel will further strengthen the school’s supportive and inclusive environment as he steps into the role.
