DOWNINGTOWN, PA — This summer, Brandywine Virtual Academy (BVA) partnered with Macy Linsey, an incoming senior at Downingtown STEM Academy, to refine and enhance its Early Childhood Education course while providing the student with a unique, hands-on internship experience.

Under the mentorship of BVA teacher Nancy Gober, Linsey helped align the course with Pennsylvania state standards and developed engaging activities designed to make learning more interactive for students. Working from Gober’s scope and sequence, Linsey applied her academic skills and creativity to ensure the course meets educational expectations while also introducing innovative ways for students to connect with the material.

“This experience demonstrates the value of providing students with opportunities to gain real-world experience while supporting high-quality online education,” said Gober. “Macy brought fresh ideas, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose to the project. Her contributions will make a meaningful impact on the students who take this course.”

Linsey, whose interests center on child psychology and the impacts of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in children, said her passion stems from a desire to help young people overcome challenges beyond their control. “A child is not at fault for the hand they were dealt,” she said.

BVA, operated by the Chester County Intermediate Unit, partners with school districts throughout the region to expand learning opportunities for students. Internships like Linsey’s highlight how collaboration between educators and students can produce impactful results, both enriching the curriculum and preparing students for future careers and studies.

Linsey’s project reflects BVA’s broader mission of combining academic rigor with innovative approaches to education, demonstrating how student-educator partnerships can drive improvements in teaching and learning across Chester County.
