PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The Chester County Intermediate Unit (CCIU) transformed the Technical College High School (TCHS) Pickering campus into a hub of celebration on the evening of May 8, honoring the exceptional contributions of its staff at the 42nd Annual Awards & Recognition Celebration.

Launched in 1983, this annual event brings together staff to shine a spotlight on those who embody the CCIU mission. Executive Director Dr. George F. Fiore described the evening as “a night dedicated to honoring those who make a lasting difference in the lives of students, families, and colleagues throughout our community.”

The evening began with recognition for employees who marked significant service milestones, celebrating 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of dedication. Additionally, 30 retirees were applauded for their impactful careers and wished well in their next chapters.

A highlight of the program was the presentation of 12 Outstanding Service Awards (OSA), given to staff who demonstrate extraordinary dedication. Dr. Fiore emphasized, “The OSA represents our commitment to recognizing those who go above and beyond in their service.”

This year’s OSA honorees included Richard Bollinger, Angela D’Amico Miller, Sue Kerr, Joseph Lubitsky, Jessica Pavolvic, Kelly Rebar, Brittany Saello, Susan Silverstein, Jeff Towles, Michelle Williams, and Rachel Yevel. A special team award recognized Matt Hills, Alicia Johnson, and Kelly Kinsley for their work on Emergency Assistance to Nonpublic Schools (EANS) grants.

Receiving the prestigious Annie Sullivan Award was Yaneth Garcia-Lopez, recognized for her advocacy and service to students with disabilities through the Migrant Education program. This award pays tribute to educators who exemplify extraordinary dedication, modeled after the famous teacher of Helen Keller.

The evening concluded with the induction of Dr. Sue Mateka into the CCIU Hall of Fame. A former principal of the Child & Career Development Center (CCDC), Dr. Mateka was celebrated for her longstanding commitment and transformative impact on the organization and the communities it serves. Dr. Fiore emphasized, “Induction into the CCIU Hall of Fame is the highest honor we bestow on former staff members.”

Attendees enjoyed musical performances from CCDC students, while Conestoga High School’s Isabella Florendo greeted guests with solo piano pieces in the event’s foyer.

With its rich legacy of celebrating staff excellence, the CCIU once again highlighted the dedication and talent of those shaping education and enrichening the community.
