WEST CHESTER, PA — AccessLex Institute® announced continued progress in advancing diversity within the legal profession through its LexScholars by AccessLex® programs, which aim to expand law school opportunities for individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
Since launching in 2020, the LexScholars initiative has supported more than 1,200 aspiring law students by providing resources, mentorship, and structured pathways designed to improve law school admissions prospects for those who may face systemic barriers, including lower LSAT scores and limited financial resources.
Expanding Access Through Targeted Programs
LexPreLaw focuses on guiding students through the admissions process with LSAT preparation, counseling, and financial assistance. Among 2022-23 participants who applied to law school, 45% received admission offers — a striking contrast to the national average of just 10% for applicants with comparable credentials. More than 160 alumni have already gained admission, and 92% successfully completed their first year of law school in good standing.
LexPostBacc provides a 10-month intensive curriculum to prepare aspiring law students for the academic and financial demands of law school. Participants, referred by partnering institutions, receive scholarships and stipends upon enrollment. To date, more than 120 Scholars have entered law school through this program, and 94% of the 2023-24 cohort met performance benchmarks and finished their first year in good standing.
LexPostBacc Direct, launched in 2025, expands the reach of the LexPostBacc curriculum to students without law school referrals. The inaugural cohort of 62 Scholars is currently completing the program, offering a broader pathway for students to strengthen their law school readiness.
A Commitment to Equity in Legal Education
Aaron N. Taylor, Senior Vice President and Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®, underscored the importance of these efforts in transforming access to the legal field. “The programs target aspiring students whose talents have been overlooked,” Taylor said. “Their favorable performance in law school validates our focus and contributes much to the betterment of legal education, the legal profession, and society.”
By focusing on underserved communities and equipping students with the tools to succeed, AccessLex continues to play a pivotal role in shaping a more inclusive legal profession, helping bridge opportunity gaps that have long limited diversity in law schools nationwide.
