WAYNE, PA311Literacy has announced the launch of The Great People Manual, an innovative bilingual program designed to foster character development and civic-mindedness in students through reading. Unveiled during The Great Reading Tournament: Summer Edition, this K-8 curriculum intertwines literacy with universal virtues such as kindness, gratitude, and perseverance, encouraging academic growth alongside social-emotional learning.

The Great People Manual engages students with stories, videos, and interactive activities in English and Spanish, featuring real-world role models like Abraham Lincoln, Mahatma Gandhi, Thích Nhất Hạnh, and Gabriela Mistral. By exploring these inspiring examples, children learn how to make responsible choices, treat others with empathy, and actively contribute to their communities.

“Literacy is the foundation of opportunity—but values like ‘The Golden Rule’ are the compass,” said Ariadna Trapote, Executive Director of 311Literacy. “We want every child not just to succeed, but to contribute, to connect, and to care.”

Integrated into The Great Reading Tournament (TGRT), The Great People Manual adds new depth to this global literacy initiative. Spanning from June 15 to July 19, 2025, TGRT challenges students from over 32 countries to read as much as possible while learning valuable lessons about empathy and resilience. The tournament boasts a 10,000+ book library and tracks reading time, comprehension, and group scoring through live leaderboards.

Now in its fourth edition, TGRT is expected to draw nearly 30,000 participants, offering them the chance to win prizes while instilling a lifelong love of reading. Past tournaments have shown enduring success, with 25% of participants continuing to log reading minutes after the contest’s conclusion.

“We are thrilled to sponsor The Great Reading Tournament,” said Ruben Abarca, CEO of High Impact Tutors. “As a STEM company, we know that the foundation of every scientific breakthrough, every technological leap, and every engineering marvel is the ability to read and learn. Reading isn’t just fundamental—it’s the launchpad for every future innovator.”

The Great People Manual will see wider implementation this fall, marking a new milestone in character education within the classroom and beyond. By combining literacy and values-based education, 311Literacy is reshaping how students engage with the world, building a generation of informed, compassionate, and civically active leaders.

Families, educators, and schools are encouraged to join this free international celebration of literacy and character.
