WEST CHESTER, PA — State funding is heading to West Goshen Township to address long-standing flooding concerns and pedestrian safety along one of the area’s busiest corridors.

State Rep. Chris Pielli, a Democrat who represents Chester County, announced that West Goshen Township has been awarded $126,827 in Multimodal Transportation Fund grants. The full amount will be used for storm sewer upgrades and pedestrian improvements along Montgomery Avenue, a roadway that has experienced recurring stormwater problems in recent years.

Pielli said the investment is aimed at managing persistent stormwater issues that have affected residents and businesses in both West Goshen Township and neighboring West Chester Borough. He said the project will also improve roadway safety by reducing flooding risks and enhancing conditions for pedestrians.

Pielli credited state and local coordination for securing the funding, thanking state Sen. Carolyn Comitta, PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll, and Gov. Josh Shapiro for their support of the project.

The Multimodal Transportation Fund provides competitive grants to municipalities, councils of governments, businesses, economic development organizations, public transportation agencies, and freight and port entities. The program is designed to strengthen transportation assets, improve safety, and enhance accessibility across Pennsylvania communities.

The next round of Multimodal Transportation Fund grant applications is scheduled to open January 5, 2026, at 8 a.m., with submissions due by February 13, 2026, at 4 p.m. State officials expect to announce the next group of grant recipients in summer 2026.
