$200K Grant Raises Big Questions About South Coatesville’s Next Chapter

Grant money

HARRISBURG, PA — South Coatesville Borough is set to establish a full-time municipal manager position after securing a $200,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, state Rep. Dan Williams announced this week.

The funding, awarded through the Strategic Management Planning Program, will cover salary and benefits for the new role. Borough leaders say the position is designed to strengthen day-to-day operations and support long-term planning in a community that has seen rising demands on local services.

Williams said the investment is aimed at helping the borough modernize its administrative capacity. “Thanks to this funding, our local government’s ability to provide smoother and more efficient services will be enhanced,” he said. “These funds will be used to create a position that supports local growth and improves living right here in South Coatesville Borough. It’s always rewarding to see public investment in our local communities.”

The grant comes as small municipalities across Pennsylvania increasingly turn to professional managers to navigate budgeting pressures, infrastructure needs, and economic development challenges. South Coatesville’s move signals a broader effort to improve coordination across departments and expand strategic oversight.

Details on the hiring process and job timeline have not yet been released.
