PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A collaborative effort between three Phoenixville-based nonprofits has resulted in the establishment of the new Open Hearth–PACS (OHPACS) Garden, aimed at addressing food insecurity in the region. Trellis for Tomorrow, Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS), and Open Hearth, Inc. joined forces to launch the Food for All garden, located at Open Hearth’s property at 701 S. Main Street. The initiative expands Trellis for Tomorrow’s network of over 30 community-driven gardens in southeastern Pennsylvania.

The garden, part of Trellis’ Food for All program, is supported by local volunteers and expert guidance. At least 50% of harvests are donated to food assistance programs, with the OHPACS Garden committing 100% of its organic produce to PACS, ensuring fresh food reaches families in need. PACS President Mary Fuller emphasized the garden’s impact, stating, “Our shoppers are so happy and relieved when they see PACS can offer healthy and fresh options. We can’t express our appreciation enough to Trellis for their expertise and to Open Hearth for the garden space.”

The partnership began in 2022 when Trellis secured USDA grant funding to develop urban agriculture projects in Phoenixville. By 2024, Open Hearth contributed land and collaborated with PACS to sustain and expand efforts. “The garden became a reality because all of us were willing to come together and make it happen,” noted Kelly Raggazino, CEO of Open Hearth, Inc.

The garden officially joined Trellis’ network in early 2025. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on June 24 at 5 PM, inviting the community to celebrate this milestone.

Trellis for Tomorrow brings over two decades of expertise in food justice, youth engagement, and environmental initiatives, having donated more than 250,000 pounds of produce since its founding. PACS and Open Hearth, longstanding leaders in food assistance and community support, serve hundreds of families monthly and champion resource coordination and empowerment in the region.

Jennifer Anderson, Executive Director of Trellis, praised the partnership, stating, “Phoenixville is a shining example of excellence in nonprofit partnership and coordination. This partnership demonstrates what’s possible through mutual respect and appreciation.”
