PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville has been awarded a $100,000 Keystone Historic Preservation grant, the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission (PHMC) announced this week. The funding is part of a broader initiative distributing just over $2 million across 15 counties in Pennsylvania to support the preservation of historical and cultural landmarks.

State Representative Paul Friel praised the grant allocation, emphasizing its significance for the local community. “The Colonial Theatre’s hard work securing this grant reflects highly on our community, and I congratulate the hard workers there keeping up this gem,” said Friel. “The Colonial’s preservation is an investment in the enduring legacy of the performing arts and the shared heritage of our community’s generations past and future.”

Nestled in the heart of downtown Phoenixville, The Colonial Theatre is a nonprofit arts institution that operates three venues and multiple event spaces within two adjoining historic structures. Renowned for its cultural contributions, the theater remains a regional treasure and a symbol of the town’s rich heritage.

This grant is one of many funded by the Keystone Recreation, Park & Conservation Fund, which relies on a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax revenue. The resources are directed toward supporting historical organizations, museums, and municipal initiatives aimed at preserving Pennsylvania’s cultural fabric.

The PHMC plans to highlight these preservation efforts as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026, further showcasing Pennsylvania’s role in shaping American history.

With this financial boost, The Colonial Theatre looks to continue its mission of preserving the arts and enriching the cultural landscape for generations to come.
