HARRISBURG, PA — Coatesville is set to receive a significant infrastructure upgrade as $4.2 million in funding has been secured for the replacement of 240 lead-impacted water service lines, according to an announcement by state Rep. Dan Williams.

The funding package, awarded to Pennsylvania American Water Co., includes a $1.2 million grant and a $2.9 million low-interest loan provided through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (Pennvest). The loan carries a 1% interest rate and offers a grant-equivalent value of approximately $1.4 million over its term. Importantly, the improvements are not expected to impact customer water rates.

Rep. Williams emphasized the health benefits of the investment, particularly in addressing the risks of lead exposure. “Lead exposure — even at low levels — presents a silent danger that cannot be ignored,” he said. “This funding will enable the full replacement of all impacted water lines, ensuring clean water and safer living conditions for Coatesville residents.”

The project is part of a broader state initiative to modernize aging infrastructure and protect public health by reducing contaminants in drinking water. Pennvest’s funding model is designed to make such projects affordable while expanding access to safe, reliable water systems throughout Pennsylvania.
