WEST CHESTER, PA — BASIS Independent Schools placed five campuses among the nation’s highest-ranked private schools in the 2027 Niche Rankings, while 29% of its graduating seniors qualified as National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists, reflecting the network’s academic performance across multiple states.

Two of the network’s five eligible high schools ranked among the 10 best private K-12 schools nationally, according to Niche, which evaluates schools using academic and other institutional measures.

BASIS Independent Manhattan ranked third among private K-12 schools nationwide and 11th among private high schools. BASIS Independent Brooklyn placed sixth in the national private K-12 category.

The scholarships are scheduled to be awarded in spring 2027.

National Merit semifinalist recognition is based primarily on performance in the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test, making the proportion of qualifying seniors a measure of standardized academic achievement across the network.

BASIS Independent Schools operates private educational programs serving students from preschool through 12th grade, using a curriculum designed to build subject knowledge through progressively advanced coursework.

The network attributes its academic approach to specialized instruction, an internationally informed curriculum and an emphasis on independent learning.

Toby Walker, vice president of BASIS Independent Schools, said the results reflect the network’s emphasis on challenging coursework and student responsibility.

“These results are a reflection of that mission and what happens when students are given purposeful challenges and the ownership to meet them,” Walker said.

The 2027 rankings and National Merit results provide separate measures of academic performance, with the Niche placements evaluating individual campuses and the scholarship semifinalist figures reflecting achievement across the network’s graduating class.
