MALVERN, PA — Two Chester County townships will receive $751,400 in Pennsylvania state grants to expand recreational facilities, with most of the funding directed toward sports courts at Exton Park in West Whiteland Township.

The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources awarded $541,600 to West Whiteland Township for development of the Exton Park Sports Courts and $209,800 to East Whiteland Township for Phase 2B development of Bacton Hill Park, according to state Rep. Kristine Howard, D-Chester.

The Exton Park allocation accounts for approximately 72% of the combined funding, making it the larger of the two recreational investments.

The Bacton Hill Park award will support the next phase of the township’s park development, adding state financial assistance to the project’s continued expansion.

Both grants were awarded through DCNR’s Community Conservation Partnerships Program, which supports park development, recreational improvements, natural resource conservation and community revitalization across Pennsylvania.

The program provides funding to municipalities and other eligible organizations for projects intended to improve public access to outdoor recreation and preserve community green spaces.

“Our parks are vital and invaluable community resources,” Howard stated, thanking DCNR for its continued support of recreational improvements and conservation efforts in Chester County.

The awards represent additional state investment in recreational infrastructure in two neighboring Chester County townships, with funding designated for specific park development projects rather than general municipal operations.
