DELAWARE COUNTY, PA — Drivers on Interstate 476 and southbound Interstate 95 should prepare for five nights of lane closures beginning Sunday, September 13, as crews repair traffic-management equipment in Delaware County.
At a Glance
- Roads Affected: Northbound and southbound I-476 in Marple Township; southbound I-95 in Ridley Township and Ridley Park Borough
- Dates: Sunday, September 13, through Friday morning, September 18
- Times: 9:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night
- Reason: Intelligent Transportation Systems repairs
The right lane of I-476 will close in both directions between the U.S. 1 (Media Bypass) interchange and the Sproul Road overpass in Marple Township.
The right lane of southbound I-95 will also close between the Stewart Avenue interchange at Exit 8 and the I-476 interchange at Exit 7 in Ridley Township and Ridley Park Borough.
No detours are planned, but PennDOT warns that significant backups and delays may occur. Drivers should plan extra time and consider alternate routes when possible. All scheduled work depends on weather conditions.
The repairs are part of a $10.4 million project to install variable speed limit and queue warning systems along approximately 14.5 miles of I-476 in Delaware and Montgomery counties.
Variable speed limit signs will adjust posted limits based on real-time traffic, highway, and weather conditions. Queue warning displays will alert motorists to significant slowdowns ahead, helping reduce sudden stops and the risk of rear-end crashes.
Kuharchik Construction Inc., of Exeter, is the general contractor. The project is financed entirely with federal funds.
