WILLOW GROVE, PA — ECRI has spun out its Spend Management and Recall Management business into a new independent company, Staritas, backed by investment from Accel-KKR, to expand healthcare supply chain analytics and technology capabilities.
The move separates ECRI’s supply chain solutions from its core patient safety and clinical services, allowing each to focus on distinct areas of healthcare operations.
Staritas will build on ECRI’s existing data and analytics platforms, which are used by healthcare organizations to manage purchasing, monitor recalls, and respond to supply disruptions.
The new company will focus on developing AI-driven tools and real-time analytics to help healthcare providers manage costs and supply chain complexity.
Marcus Schabacker, CEO of ECRI, said the separation allows for increased investment in the supply chain platform while enabling ECRI to concentrate on patient safety and clinical evidence initiatives.
Staritas serves healthcare organizations in more than 70 countries and is used by nearly 90% of top U.S. hospitals and health systems, according to the company.
The platform combines supply and capital equipment data with analytics to help organizations identify cost-saving opportunities and improve purchasing decisions.
Emmet O’Gara, chief executive officer of Staritas, said the company will focus on expanding its technology platform and delivering data-driven insights to healthcare providers.
Accel-KKR Managing Director Park Durrett said the firm’s investment is intended to support the growth of Staritas and expand its capabilities in supply chain intelligence.
ECRI said customers will continue to receive existing services without disruption during the transition.
Following the spinout, ECRI will focus exclusively on patient safety, clinical research, and healthcare system improvement, including efforts to reduce preventable harm in patient care.
