THORNBURY TWP, PA — A long-term bridge replacement project will shut down Cheyney Road around the clock beginning Monday, May 11, creating significant detours for drivers in Delaware County.

Cheyney Road will be fully closed between Glen Mills Road and Creek Road for the duration of the project as crews replace the aging bridge structure.
Passenger vehicles will be directed to use Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), Dilworthtown Road, Concord Road, Westtown Road, and Glen Mills Road.
Truck traffic will follow a separate detour using Creek Road/Westtown Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), and U.S. 322/U.S. 1 (Baltimore Pike).
Local access will remain available, but drivers should expect congestion near the closure and along detour routes. Plan extra time and seek alternate routes where possible to avoid delays.
The project will replace a 94-year-old bridge with a reinforced concrete box culvert and widen the roadway to accommodate two 11-foot travel lanes with four-foot shoulders.
Construction is weather dependent and scheduled to continue through early November.
