Juvenile Charged After Gun Found During Wilmington Stop

WILMINGTON, DE — A 17-year-old male was taken into custody Monday morning after police said a loaded handgun was recovered during a vehicle stop.

According to Wilmington Police, an officer with the Uniformed Services Division conducted a traffic stop at approximately 11:56 a.m. on April 6 in the area of West 7th and North Madison streets in reference to a vehicle violation.

Police reported the juvenile passenger was taken into custody without incident.

According to investigators, officers allegedly recovered a loaded 9mm handgun.

Authorities said the juvenile has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and carrying a concealed deadly weapon.

Police reported the juvenile was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $10,000 secured bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
